It was a revealing experience to
tour the state’s impoverished
areas and see for ourselves the
ground realities there. We
generally speak a lot being in
our comfortable frame of mind
about inclusive development and
humane values. But it was an eye
opening experience for me to
check whether my theories would
work on the ground beneath the
hot sun.
The people living in these areas
see so many problems around them
that at least a few of them
would have the inclination to
solve them coming up with their
own ideas. As we have rightly
found out this does not require
any high level of education or
sophisticated know-how about
machines. The purpose of our
yatra was to encourage this
endeavor among people by
motivating and assisting them. I
am sure honey-bee network will
accomplish this glorious mission
of connecting and collaborating
with grass root innovators in
far flung areas of the country.
We have seen this during this
yatra when we were talking to
locals and you were asking some
guys to keep a check on the
developments.
We have also visited several
schools and interacted with the
students. I felt while spending
time with them that these
children, living in humble
circumstances maintain a fresh
perspective in life and brimming
with ideas, eager to learn. Here
I would like to suggest some
things. We could create and
develop a program to encourage
education especially scientific
knowledge. What I found was that
most of them are unaware of the
real education scenario and
think only about either
engineering or medicine. They
are mostly unaware of the
developments in science and
incentives provided by
government to popularize
scientific thought. May be we
can have tie-up with AIPSN (All
India People’s science network)
in this regard. I am a member of
JVV and can act as intermediate
in this regard.
We felt that we were ably guided
by you Sir, and the way that you
were giving us practical tips on
leadership, team development and
any general topic from food
intake to spirituality
pleasantly surprised us. Being
61 you still walk the fastest
without any trace of fatigue
whiles we the younger lot took
many breaks in between and
trailed behind. You were always
involved in some discussion or
the other. Suffice to say that
it was an indirect NCC
experience for all of us! Coming
to team interactions the
feedback sessions and the walks
provided us ample time to
interact with each other and
know each other views better. It
was really surprising for me to
see us hailing from different
backgrounds-students to teachers
to employees coming close to
each other. The relations became
warm and cordial by the end of
the tour-we singed and laughed
together and in our return
journey played a game of ‘tell
about me’ where each of us had
to tell about our perspective
about the others honestly and
without any malice of course!
All in all it was a wonderful
experience and I surely will
carry many memories of this. I
am eagerly waiting for the next
plan.
